Gulp....Gas went from $3.84 which it was there for awhile to $4.15 yesterday, and now to $4.20/gal today.I live in central Michigan, and I know there are places it is much worse. What I dont understand is WHY it goes up like that, all at once. Can anyone educate me on this if you know?<img class="rg_i" src="https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQs9WJnGy4Ka-BC9zKusblZd6Ujx63x6Zc5SRpHAjVZohtkBXVgYg" style="width:128px;height:185px;margin-top:-1px;margin-left:0px;" alt="images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQs9WJnGy4Ka-BC9zKusblZd6Ujx63x6Zc5SRpHAjVZohtkBXVgYg" />                     <a href="http://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&frm=1&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&docid=SH8hBZn2g4hyBM&tbnid=Gb4zjBUtDhcwCM:&ved=0CAUQjRw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.breitbart.com%2FBig-Journalism%2F2012%2F08%2F23%2FThe-Media-The-Gas-Price-and-The-2012-Election&ei=1b2rUdmLFpO24AO3mICoCA&bvm=bv.47244034,d.dmg&psig=AFQjCNELgahk6X3w9U2BLnHukyzUTv8Fhw&ust=1370296061099825"></a>

Yikes! $4.20 a gallon? I'm paying $3.23 today when it was $3.11 a week ago. That was a big jump for me. lol What sucks now for me is that it's summer and the AC in the car will be going which will suck my gas tank dry. I hate driving!

Yep....$4.20 per gallon. I have a 18 gallon tank which is almost always between E and W (walking) :lol:I mean what are people to do. I know when the price gets really bad like this everything is always pre-pay as people like to fill their tank and not pay. (whoops...over sight I am sure)$3.23 sounds heavenly right now.California, I have a Sister there, it is about $5 bucks a gallon.

Ok Pam, I'll try to explain. It goes up fast, because Gas station owners have to have enough money to pay for their next delivery of gas. If they see the price of oil going to go up, they raise the price of already paid for gas, to cover the increase. The trouble being, when they know the price of oil is going to drop, they know we the consumers, are generally uninformed, and will not price shop as we do when it's rising. I bet most of us here, buy gas at 1-3 stations. Now this next part is solely MY opinion. If we could get an internet message out to everyone online, and if everyone would actually participate, I have a simple way to make prices drop drastically for a week or two. Ready? No one, I mean No one buy gas for 48 hours! Make sure you have enough fuel to skip buying Saturday and Sunday. Set a certain date, let's say the weekend prior to labor Day weekend. Don't go into ANY convenient store, not for milk, cigs, I mean nothing. Buy your beer Friday or at the supermarket. One weekend, everyone in America, and the price of gas would drop almost 50c a gal. overnight lol! Crazy? Maybe so, but I'd love to see us try it.

Hi there Mikey7a....thanks for the explanation of why gas prices jump so high so quickly from time to time.I agree with the not buying gas for a whole weekend, but when people try to get these types of things going, not all seem to follow and it is unsuccessful.Gas is holding steady at $4.25/gal in my area right now. Ugh.Thanks again.

Let me make it simple - gas prices go up because they CAN!For the most part, the escalation in gas prices can't be explained in realistic terms.Gas is $3.31 is the FLA at the moment.....
