Gamblers Make Out Big With Two Oscar Upsets - Big upsets in the Oscars are rare, and when they happen, almost always involve a nomination with the second shortest odds winning over the odds on favorite. Such was the case this year where Mark Rylance overtook favorite Sylvester Stallone to take home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. Nominated for his role in Bridge of Spies, Rylance was listed at 3-1 odds compared to Stalone, who was coming in at -450 for Creed.
Another upset of the night was in the Best Picture category. In recent years, it is becoming more common for the odds-on favorite not to win. This year The Revenant was expected to win at -200 but it was Spotlight that took home the award paying slightly better than 2-1 odds.
